Stay Sun Safe This Summer

As the weather gets nicer and people start spending more time outdoors, it’s important to remember the many dangers that overexposure to the sun can present. Sometimes, it just comes down to preparation. And to be prepared, you have to know the facts.

Spending time outdoors is important for many reasons. Time outside can improve mood, reduce stress, and can even help with eye health. It’s a great way to get active. And it’s just enjoyable to be outside, especially in the spring and summer weather.

But there’s a danger that you have to account for when planning your trips outdoors. Too much sun exposure can lead to serious health risks from harmful ultraviolet (UV) light.

UV Rays can be particularly treacherous because they are still dangerous on cloudy days, and even in the fall and winter months. So, even when the sun isn’t shining brightly, you have to be careful. But during the summer, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the sun is at its most dangerous.

Overexposure to the sun can lead to numerous health problems, the most serious of which is skin cancer.

There are some simple steps you can take to protect yourself from the dangers of the sun. Make sure you follow them to stay safe this summer.

  1. Wear a hat. If you’re not shy, one with a large brim that protects your face, ears and the back of your neck is best. This won’t keep you totally protected, but it will help.
  2. Wear protective clothing. You can find very light shirts with UV protection online that will protect your skin while keeping you cool. The most important thing is that you’re covering your skin to keep harmful rays from causing you serious problems down the road.
  3. Sunglasses will protect your eyes from the many dangers the sun can present to your vision. Make sure you wear sunglasses that provide UV protection.
Sunscreen is an important part of sun safety. Follow the directions on the label, and don’t forget it at home!
  4. Stay in the shade when you can. This limits your exposure, and time in the sun adds up quickly.

Make sure to keep these simple tips in mind when you’re planning your summer outings. Being out in the sun is something we all love, but it’s important to be responsible so we can spend as many days enjoying the outdoors as possible.
